Nope—and that’s the point. Gatebreaker Algebra is a just-in-time supplement designed to support students who are behind while still aligning to your grade-level curriculum. It’s meant to be flexible, not a replacement.

It’s officially labeled Algebra 1, but teachers in 7th, 8th, Pre-Algebra, High School, SPED, and intervention settings are using it to fill gaps and scaffold toward grade-level success.

Both core teachers (the only math teacher a student has) and intervention teachers (additional math teacher a student has) use these resources. Core teachers use them to supplement their textbook with the prerequisite skills their students need in order to access grade level content. Intervention teachers use this resource as a stand alone curriculum.

We have used the prioritization documents from Achieve the Core (Student Achievement Partners) to plan the units included in Gatebreaker Algebra and have focused on only what is considered essential.

Unit 1: Integers (add, subtract, multiply, divide pos and neg integers)

Unit 2: Equations (combine like terms, distributive property, one step, two step, multi-step, variables on both sides) 

Unit 3: Inequalities (plotting inequalities on a number line, solve then graph on a number line - one step, two step, multi-step)

Unit 4: Linear Functions (plotting points, graphing slope intercept form, graphing standard form, converting to slope-intercept form, word problems)

Unit 5: Systems of Equations (solve by graphing, substitution, elimination; word problems, parallel and perpendicular lines)

Unit 6: Linear Inequalities (graphing linear inequalities, graphing systems of linear inequalities)

Unit 7: Functions (domain and range, function notation, graphs of functions)

Unit 8: Polynomials (exponent rules; adding, subtracting, and multiplying polynomials

Unit 9: Quadratic Functions (factoring quadratics, solving quadratics, graphing quadratics)

Unit 10: Stats (mean, median, range, mode; lines of best fit, two way frequency tables)

There is also a Fact Fluency/Number Sense unit with a curated list of resources to build that foundational fluency in an effective and respectful way for older students who have struggled for years with mathematics.
